Pool Calculator

At Pink Flamingo Pool Company, we understand that every pool and spa requires tailored care to maintain its pristine, crystal-clear allure. Our team is dedicated to helping you identify the specific maintenance needs of your pool, ensuring it remains a luxurious oasis.

To begin, it’s essential to determine the volume of your pool, as this will guide the precise quantity of chemicals needed to keep your waters perfectly balanced. Simply gather the dimensions of your pool, and we’ll walk you through the steps.

If the pool builder has not provided the exact volume, estimating it is an easy yet essential task—requiring only a bit of measuring. Keep in mind, this will be an estimate, but rest assured, it’s a reliable method to ensure your pool or spa stays impeccably maintained.

Rectangular Pool

Rectangular Pool Volume Calculation

For a rectangular pool, calculating the volume is straightforward, using the formula:

Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5

Where 7.5 represents the number of gallons of water in one cubic foot.

To determine the Average Depth, simply add the depth of the shallow end and the deep end, then divide by 2.

If your pool has irregular lengths or widths, use the average dimensions. Think of this as overlaying a rectangle on the shape of your pool, covering the majority of the water area.

For example, if your pool is 32 feet long, 16 feet wide, and the average depth is 5 feet, the calculation would be:

Volume = 32 x 16 x 5 x 7.5 = 19,200 gallons.

This method will give you an estimated volume, ensuring you have the right amount of chemicals for your pool’s maintenance.

Circular or Oval Pool Volume Calculation

For oval or circular pools, the formula we use to estimate the volume is:

Length x Width x Average Depth x 5.9

Where Length refers to the longer side of the oval and Width refers to the shorter side. For a true circular pool, both the length and width are the same.

For example, if your pool is 36 feet long, 18 feet wide, and has an average depth of 5 feet, the calculation would be:

Volume = 36 x 18 x 5 x 5.9 = 19,116 gallons.

For a 20-foot wide circular pool with an average depth of 4 feet, the calculation would be:

Volume = 20 x 20 x 4 x 5.9 = 7,480 gallons.

This estimation ensures you’re prepared with the proper amount of chemicals for a sparkling clean pool.

Kidney-Shaped Pool Volume Calculation

Kidney-shaped pools require a bit more work than rectangular ones due to their varying widths. To estimate the volume, we first calculate the average width by adding the widest point of the shallow end and deep end, then multiplying by 0.45. Once we have the average width, we can apply the rectangular pool formula:

Length x Average Width x Average Depth x 7.5

For example, if your pool’s shallow end has a width of 9 feet and the deep end’s width is 18 feet, with a length of 32 feet and an average depth of 4 feet, the calculations would be as follows:

Average width = (9 + 18) x 0.45 = 12.15 feet

Then, the volume is:

32 x 12.15 x 4 x 7.5 = 11,688 gallons

This gives you a clear estimate of your pool’s volume, helping you determine the right amount of chemicals for maintenance.

Langelier Saturation Index (LSI): The Key to Balanced Water

Developed by Dr. Wilfred Langelier in the early 20th century, the Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) is the foundation of water balance and saturation. While the science behind it is complex, understanding LSI can be incredibly valuable for pool owners and operators.

Managing your pool chemistry with LSI helps maintain water clarity, equipment longevity, and swimmer comfort. To simplify the process, we recommend using Orenda Technologies' LSI Calculator—a powerful tool designed to help you calculate and maintain perfect water balance.
